An epic role-playing adventure game set in the world of the Highlander movie!

In June 2023, I received a freelance commission from Evil Genius Games of Seattle, USA, to design and write an adventure for their Highlander tabletop role-playing game. I was awarded the commission based upon the writing and design samples I provided from my previous publications for Flames of War, and also a proposal I submitted that outlined the plot of the adventure in considerable detail.

Over the next four months, I designed and wrote a 30,000 word adventure game that utilised the rules of the Highlander RPG, to be featured in a forthcoming product.

This was a challenging, educational and rewarding project. Although I was very familiar with role-playing games, and had designed adventures for them previously, this was my first professional commission to design and write an RPG adventure. I had to assimilate the existing rules of the game, incorporate them into my design, and write a clear, concise and exciting adventure that catered for first time role-players, but was also fun and challenging enough for experienced players. An additional challenge I faced was that, as this was a licensed product, all of the material I produced had to conform to, and not contradict, the “canon” of the Highlander movie.

The end result was a truly epic game that guides the players on an adventure from a far-flung battlefield of WW2 to several exotic, and dangerous, locales in the present day.
